Just found your site. My grandfather was Donald Currie, your postman, listed in your list of those who died in the first war. My mother, Margaret and her sister my Autie Annie were born locally. I have been to the Menin Gate to visit with flowers. I now live on Canada, but come home nearly every year. This year, 2018, we rented a house from Airds.

I have carried out quite a bit of research on those who fell during the Great War, from Appin and compiled a video in commemoration. This can be found on the Appin of Yesteryear FB page and just today, loaded on to YouTube.
Unfortunately, I didn’t find too much information on your Grandfather and didn’t even manage to found out where he lived in the village.
I would be delighted if you could tell me some more about him and by any chance, do you have a photo of him?
On Sunday, I am displaying photos of the fallen in the church, here in Appin. For your grandfather, I have a photo of the Menin Gate but would love to change that to an actual photo of him.
My grandfather would have certainly known your grandfather.

Just reading these posts Donald Currie Postman was lodger at Carter’s cottage where my dad lived with his family , according to the 1911 census , my dad was one then and Donald Currie was 27
