Archibald Downie (1894 – 1973) Born 6th December 1894 in Lochaline, Morven, Archibald enlisted for WW1 on 9th December 1914, with the Cameron Highlanders, at the age of 20 years. During the Great War, he fought in France and was wounded by shrapnel. While Headmaster of Strath of Appin School (1941 – 1961) and during WW2, he served with the local Home Guard. John Allan Rowan, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Port Appin. John Allan Rowan  2nd son of John Rowan and Sarah Grieve was born at Kilmaronaig on 7th August 1874. Like his father, he was a gardener.  Following his service in WW1, he was in poor health. He never married and latterly made his home with his brother Donald & his wife Meg in Lenzie. He died in Dumbarton fever Hospital on 2nd November 1943 and is buried in Annat Cemetery beside his mother and father.
